Myers Minutes: 10.7.21
Another addition of Matt’s monthly climate tech thoughts
Fellow Climate Warriors,
Welcome to another Myers Minutes, or Matt’s caffeine-infused digital prose encapsulating his learnings from Climate Tech Cocktails (CTC) podcast guests and/or brainstorms with semi-buzzed Climate Tech Cocktails (CTC) Happy HourS attendees.

👏🏼 PRIME Coalition’s thesis is playing out. I might be biased because I consider members of PRIME’s original team to be dear friends and mentors, however Lilac’s Series B isn’t only exciting because of it’s size ($150MM), but also because Lilac’s round proves that non-traditional “patient” capital can in fact de-risk effectively and be followed-on with a blended capital approach—T. Rowe Price?!? Case & point. Don’t understand what I’m referencing and want to learn more? Dig into PRIME’s publications here: https://primecoalition.org/learn/
🙀 All I hear when Greta speaks is “blah, blah, blah.” I’m sure I’m going to get some negative feedback for this, but I also know I’m expressing what’s on the minds of many of you. I’m SOOO over Greta. Please, just go write more poems about baby carrots. OR, stop complaining all of the time and start using your platform to support people actually BUILDING and investing in things solving the problem. OR, run for office yourself and you’ll find it’s not so easy being a politician. Not that I don’t think the youth movement isn’t very important…but I want to hear from others at this point.
🇩🇪 Germany’s youth are leading the way. Speaking of the youth, dig into Germany’s election results and you’ll find a new cohort of diverse, young policy makers rising and putting climate first—”It’s the under-30s vs. the over-50s”. Hopefully the trend in Germany is a sign of times to come in the U.S. We need more people in office who truly understand and appreciate the importance of climate change, education, gender+racial equality, technology and decentralization+financial freedom.
🐶 Pet food’s a big deal. Did you know that about 25% of meat production in the US goes towards feeding our pets? And what can be found in this meat is very troubling. E.g. A Euthanasia drugs was found in dog food in Texas. Feeding your dog a raw meat diet? Better think twice…bacteria has been found in raw dog meat products that can be harmful towards animals AND humans. Think your dog isn’t meant to be a vegan? Bramble, a vegan Border Collie, lived to the ripe old age of 25. Point being, maybe it’s time for your pet to go vegan…if not for the emissions reduction, for you and your family’s health.
💪 The climate tech community is only getting stronger. I know I wrote about this last time, but I’m continuously encouraged by the number of people getting into “climate tech”. We had 70+ people at our 2nd NYC Climate Tech Cocktails (CTC) Happy HourS and 150+ last Thursday in Berkeley! With all of the talent and capital flowing into climate this year, I can’t wait to see how many cool companies are formed over the next 6-12 months.
Until next time! Keep crushing it with a cool beverage in hand.
Warmly,
Matt
